progress...... finally

ok kids.... I am FINALLY making some progress..... I am so close to finishing items that I do not feel guilty for planning my next projects..... however..... I am seeing so MANY projects that I would like to make that I am having a hard time deciding which ones I want to make..... such as this

I want to make that but am unsure if it would be wise given that we only have one more month of winter left and I doubt that I can knit that fast (even though I am by no means a slow knitter).

That is not the only project that I wish to knit. I am lusting after this jacket

And finally a project that has caught my eye for some time now. beauty

oh..... and lets not forget socks...... I am going to knit more socks seeing as they are much easier to carry around with me in my purse.....

oh dear

good grief.... I have done something I usually never do..... I have given up on a project.... that's right.... you know that fishnet stocking I was making? Well I gave up on it because it was not working. It required a cotton/elastic yarn and all I have is Sinfonia (which is an awesome cotton yarn). None of the stores in this area carry a yarn like that so I have had to pull it out and forget about it for the moment. Now I have not given up on the yarn..... oh no.... I cannot let that happen..... in place..... i am making a cotton tank top (which means I should have it ready for the wearing by this spring). In order to get the proper guage I use two strands of Sinfonia, one black, one pink. If I like the pattern I will make another one in differen colors (maybe lime green and blue?) I cast on last night and have knit the first two rows......

here.....

it's not much..... yet..... but you just wait.... it will be....... yes........ it will

temptation

Once again, I have more 'works-in-progress' than I really know what to do with. I have my Jiffy sweater (working on the second sleeve), my cotton drop stitch vest (two inches left on side one of two), a pair of cotton lace stockings (almost to the heel), and a baby blanket (up to row 30 of 160). To serious knitters, four projects is very common, but to the novice knitter four projects is insane. The fact that I have four projects going at once is not what disturbs me. The fact that I have four projects going and feel the need to cast on more is what bugs me. I want to start this jacket made from TLC Amore and I want to start a pair of Wool-Ease socks.

It is taking all the self control I can muster to keep myself from casting on any of these projects. I am telling myself that I have to finish at least one if the projects I have currently before casting on another. The temptation is almost more than I can stand. Don't get me wrong.... I like the projects I have currently on my needles. I just feel the need to start something new.

Damn unknit yarn..... any knitter will know that yarn has a way of calling our your name..... it sits there unknit and it taunts you.... begging to be cast on and used to create some work of textile art that will consume my spare moments and skill.... oh how it teases me....

insane maybe

oh dear..... I'm taking on a new knitting challenge in the form of a new technique.... knitted stockings from the toe up, which is a TOTALLY new technique for me.... all the socks I have knit to this point have been from the top down..... it starts with a figure eight toe...... never heard of it? well neither had I still I decided to start this project.... they are going to be black with a fishnet lace pattern and will lack up the back... I started them today and this is what I have so far...

So I'm thinking that I'm not doing so badly considering I started it not too long ago..... in regards to the Jiffy sweater I'm making, all I have left is the second sleeve and then I have to make the collar. and then sew it all together.

In knitting I have come to realize that all knitters are the victims of the dreaded distraction...... what is my distraction you ask? well.... that's easy......

IT'S ANGUS!!!!!!! Yep.... my dear cat angus likes my knitting a little too much..... he thinks of my knitting as his own personal blanket...... silly kitty......

welcome

this is my knitting blog... i needed a place to write out the fustrations and joys that knitting brings to my life... so this shall be the place.... i am not going to discuss the previous projects i have created (ok ok..... maybe i'll bring up ONE) but rather current projects that domiate my creative spirit.

i first tried my hand at knitting when i was around 7 when my grandmother taught me but i gave up b/c i was too busy with other crafts.... i picked it up again when i started college as a way of getting rid of some stress.... the book Stitch N Bitch has GREATLY helped me in my knitting adventure.... when i started knitting i hit the ground running and have not stopped yet..... doesn't look like i will be anytime soon......

let me say... i am a 'process' knitter, not a 'project' knitter.... i am more concerned with the act of knitting itself than the actual finished project.... so far of the projects i have made the only one i have worn is a scarf... through encouragement from friends i am hoping to change this and actually wear something i make.... other than a scarf or a hat of course. first of all let me say the project i am most proud of to date would be my sweater vest

look at that...... how awesome is that!? it was easy which surprised me... and it was my first venture into picture knitting... i am still waiting for a moment in which to wear this work of art

currently i am working on a really cool (cheap and easy as well) sweater made out of Lion Brand Jiffy (which as you know is under $2 a skein)... materials for this sweater cost about $20 (which is a STEAL in the knitting world)... so far i have painlessly made the front and the back (the entire thing is done in a garter stitch) and am working on the sleeves..... i have no pictures of the work in progress but will post a picture of the finished sweater as soon as i am done.....

i have one other project in progress (only two projects.... i know..... i am ashamed of myself) and it's a cool littler vest made of out cotton yarn..... it's taking forever (on size 5 needles) but pretty easy..... once again... no pictures.... but it won't be long.....
